The Electronics and Automation show is a bi-annual exhibition for electronics in the Netherlands. During this event, a live production line is presented, that will produce a gadget. This gadget is free for every visitor (after pre-registration). In 2009 Engineering Spirit has provided the design of the gadget "wireless sensor" with a USB dongle on the PC and a separate sensor module. The module for the gadget contains a temperature sensor that can be used outside.
|
The dongle unit plugs into the PC. It is provided with a program to communicate with it and to access the (wireless) connected module.
The communication protocol is IEEE 802.15.4 based. The current implementation uses bidirectional sensor-to-dongle communication, and can be used for many different types of sensors. A Microchip tranceiver and controller are used to handle the protocol stack (in firmware).
