WirelessSensor for E&A exhibition

PDF Print E-mail

The Electronics and Automation show is a bi-annual exhibition for electronics in the Netherlands.Electronics Automation
On this event, a life production line is presented, that will produce a gadget. This gadget is free for every visitor (after pre-registration).
Engineering Spirit has provided the design of the gadget; a "wireless sensor" with a dongle on the PC and a sensor module elsewhere. The module for the gadget contains a temperature sensor that can be used outside.

The dongle unit plugs into the PC. It is provided with a program to communicate with it and to access the (wireless) connected module.

The communication protocol is IEEE 802.15.4 based. The current implementation uses bidirectional sensor-to-dongle communication, and can be used for many different types of sensors. A Microchip tranceiver and controller are used to handle the protocol stack (in firmware).

The Electronics and Automation Gadget sensor module

The sensor module contains an antenna that is integrated in the PCB layout. This saves cost, while still providing a fair RF signal.

The module will be mounted in a IP65 case, making it suitable for outside temperature measurement.

See a video about this on youtube.

And also the testing of it.
