Embedded Software

Structured designAn embedded System is (usually a little) computer that is used inside a device, to control the functions of that device. From the outside, it is not always obvious that a computer is used inside.

In most cases, the computer is build from a microprocessor that also stores the software in an internal memory. The software (usually called Firmware) may be written in the "C" language or in some cases in assembly lanuage.

Most devices we have developed are also examples of embedded systems.

The technologies we use for this are:

  • Flash memory for program storage.
  • EEprom for storage of settings.
  • Design methodologies for design and implementation of the functionality.
  • Low-power by turning off unused parts.
  • Digital signal processing (also see DSP).
